What type of maintenance does the system require? Once installed, the system requires very little attention or maintenance beyond replenishing the insecticide, making a periodic routine inspection of the nozzle circuit, and winterizing the system if you live in a colder climate. It’s Your Yard! provides these services for an affordable price. Some system owners, however, prefer to do the service themselves. We provide all the instructions necessary in our user manuals and supply chemicals at reasonable cost.

How long before I have to refill the insecticide? On average refills will occur every quarter or 4 times per year, however larger systems with more nozzles made need to be refilled more often.

What kind of facilities benefit from It’s Your Yard! mosquito misting systems? Virtually any home or business owner concerned about biting insects can benefit from our system. Our systems are generally installed around: homes (front and back yards), neighborhood recreational areas, outdoor restaurants, and entertainment facilities, barns and stables.

What is the insecticide made from? The active ingredient in the insecticide used in It’s Your Yard! systems is comprised of a family of chemicals called pyrethrins, which are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers (pyrethrum). The pyrethrum is a natural insecticide that protects the chrysanthemum flowers from plant eating insects. Mosquitoes do not build up immunity to pyrethrum as they do other chemicals and synthetic compounds dangerous to humans.

Is pyrethrum effective against any other insects? Yes. Almost all insects are killed or repelled by pyrethrum including biting flies, chiggers, crickets, fire ants, fleas, gnats, horse flies, ticks, wasps, and yellow jackets   However, by setting the system to mist at dawn and dusk you avoid killing more beneficial insects, such as bees and butterflies.

Does pyrethrum leave a residue like other chemicals and synthetic compounds? NO. They are rapidly degraded by sunlight or rain, leaving your property free of residue.

Can my family be under the nozzles when it mists? We advise against being in the area during the misting times.

Can I spray over a pool? We do not spray over pools. All nozzles that are installed close to the pool's edge are pointed away from the water.

Can I spray over my pet's bedding or their food and water bowls? We recommend against spraying over your pet, its food or water. However you may spray over the bedding if the pet is not in it at the time.

Can I refill the pyrethrum mix by pouring more into the reservoir myself? Although it is legal for you to pour your own chemical, we recommend our services. It’s Your Yard! is able to offer lower chemical prices, service of the system and winterization for an affordable price.

Am I able to start or stop the misting or schedule additional mists myself? A remote control is included with each system that allows you to mist in between scheduled mists or even turn the system off from inside the house and up to 300 feet away.
